Invent Boston designs and develops original products to add science + whimsy to  every day tasks at home.   Our first product is a Two Minute timer, Two Minute Turtle, a visual timer. The Two Minute Turtle helps children and adults focus on two minute tasks such as brushing teeth, physical therapy, taking a shower and speaking (practicing a presentation or learning a language).

Invent Boston™, Home of the Two Minute Turtle Timer™

Invent Boston™ blog offers tips and stories by parents, for parents of children ages 4-12 to make toothbrushing and other healthy habits at home, more fun. We write about simple tactics to help kids do what they like to do-touch, seeing, play games and strive for independence. We recommend products to help stay healthy while being kids. We share stories to transform daily healthy habits from something kids resist (for example, toothbrushing, handwashing, toilet training, organizing, taking time-out or pausing, yoga, and taking turns) into something children are motivated to do independently, without parents’ reminders. The original physical product Invent Boston has designed for families is the new light-up Two Minute Turtle Timer, an analog, interval toothbrush timer to make brushing teeth fun for kids. Kids like to press the button, follow the flippers and brush until all the lights blink—the Victory Lap signals to brush the tongue.

Finding Time for Healthy Habits with Your Turtle Timer

Virginia Berman

What habit do you want but are not doing?

We know we cannot do everything - we all have our limits. However, when something is important to us and we STILL are not doing it , then we need to take action and Turtle Timer is our helper to take an action, our habit-forming-companion.

Which habit is important to you, but you still are not doing? Some activities that I needed to bring my Turtle Timer in to help me include: doing core exercises, practicing guitar, meditating.

“But surely, you must do something for more than 2 minutes to make it worthwhile … right?, “ To that, I say, “No!” To do anything you first have to set yourself up and DO it. Even 2 minutes is DOING It. Choose your activity. Get your Turtle Timer. Press the Turtle button and do it. Make it a routine. Simple.

The truth is, you can do anything for 2 minutes.

You may even find you want to press the Turtle Timer again once the 2 minutes are done and go for 4 minutes. That’s a benefit of the Turtle Timer—it’s FUN to press. Another feature is you want to stay til its done Bonus feature of the Turtle Timer: there are no phones for distractions.

Now, time to get started!

What activity do you want to do but are not yet doing? …Once decided, get your Turtle Timer by your side. Set up your practice and press the Turtle Timer. Go for the 2 minutes, regularly—every day or every other day as you decide how often.

Not suddenly, not quickly, but eventually, like a turtle, you will find yourself doing the thing that you wanted to do. If it’s core exercises, you will feel your abdomen get a bit more firm. If it’s guitar, you’ll find your fingers getting the callouses you need to pluck and feeling the strings again. If it’s meditation, you’ll find yourself more quickly settling into mindful breathing.

The Two Minute Turtle Timer is your tool to get started on the habit you want to add to your routine!

Sending you all the best in your success in getting started, slow and steady!
